Research conducted by Umeå University, along with partners from Canada and Norway, has shed light on the effects of forestry practices on hair lichens in Sweden.
The study indicates that clearcutting has led to a notable decline in hair lichen populations, raising concerns about the long-term sustainability of such practices.
Conversely, moderate thinning appears to have a beneficial impact, promoting the growth of these lichens and suggesting a more balanced approach to forest management.
